I don't have much memories of my interests in Math when I started school and in my primary years, but I know that I began liking it once I moved to the middle school. I remember my grade 7th Math teacher who was really affectionate , kind and very hard working; she always spent a lot of time working on each subjects and after the lessons she made sure that we all understood the material before ending the class . She was the one who really made me start enjoying Math and inspired me to think about getting to know Math even more and better .
I can not say that I was a genius student in school, but I was always a good one with fair grades in Math . However , things have changed once I went to the high school.
Going through the confusing teenage years, being arrogant and selfish, and not willing to get any help ,made me doing very poorly in the Math classes, just because I had chosen to take Math as the main major in high school, so all we had in our everyday classes was almost only Math........ Calculus, Algebra, Geometry and so on. Having forced to learn different kinds of Math subjects everyday was really frustrating for me, so it made me stop paying attention to the class , listening to the teachers and even stopped me from enjoying Math anymore. Specially when we had to be taught by the worst Geometry and Algebra teacher in grade 11, who made me even more distanced from liking Math. Even though, that Math teacher did a great job in making us hate math, luckily when I moved to grade 12 with the help of our good teachers, I realized that I still have a fairly nice connection with the Math world.

You have a dramatic relationship with mathematics, Niloo -- mostly love, but sometimes hate, especially in the high school years! Thanks for sharing this story and thinking about your own experiences as a way to develop good experiences for your own students.
